Trail Etiquette

Please stay on the trails

Exploring by foot off-trail is a grand adventure but it’s really easy to get lost! (Not to mention the increased risk of having a tick latch on to you.)

Right of Way: Share the Trails!
  1. Wildlife
  2. Horse and rider
  3. Bikes
  4. Runners and Hikers
  5. Dogs should be leashed to protect them and the wildlife who live in the park.
Please, do NOT make new trails, or widen existing ones.

Similarly, please do not obstruct trails with barricades, logs, etc. They can disturb natural drainage and lead to erosion.

Fallen limbs: Unless fallen across the trails, please do not move branches or tree-trunks. If you do move them, only move them to one side, not into the portion of the park beyond the trail.

Please avoid puddles in tracks or small ponds and pondlets by the side of the trail. They are breeding grounds for salamanders. In avoiding them, please don’t inadvertently make the trail any wider than it needs to be.

“Take only photographs, leave only footprints”

Help us to preserve the forest for its primary residents, the wildlife that calls this park home.

Don’t pick flowers or harvest plants to take home with you.

Litter: There are  trash-cans at the main entrance to the park at Pinch Road, at the small Pinch Road entrance, at the parking lot at the bottom of Trail 10 off 117, and up at the tower. Please deposit litter there or take it away with you. If you see litter lying around, please pick it up and deposit it in the trash-cans.

Pot-o-Potties: Available at the entrances and at the Environmental Center.

Please do not remove or damage lichen or moss on boulders and rock formations.

Please don’t feed wild animals.
